hotel des Ardennes

Description

It all began in 1890 when Jules Maqua and his wife Eugénie opened a café. Realising that tourists
visiting the region were often in need of accommodation, they decided in 1910 to convert their café into
a hotel-restaurant.

At the end of the second world war, Andrée the owner and her uncle Eugène relaunched the hotel business,
with a strong emphasis on the restaurant side.

In 1970, Raymond Maqua stepped in as chef and is still going strong.

In 1991, when the hotel celebrated its centenary, Raymond, his brother Philippe and their wives took over management of the hotel. You will meet them during your stay with us.

Specialities

Raymond the chef serves an elegant, creative and yet traditional cuisine using only the freshest produce bought mainly in local markets.

The menus change with the seasons and are designed to satisfy the most discerning gourmet palate. House specialities include fish and seafood dishes from Brittany, and game menus in the hunting season.

The menus are complemented by a range of delicious pastries, ice-creams and sorbets made by Philippe.

All dishes offered on our menus are "home made".

True to the family tradition, over the years Philippe has created a cellar renowned for its selection and vast choice of vintages.

Some wines are 30 years old, with over 300 different vineyards represented. A wine to please your palate will surely be available to provide the perfect accompaniment to your choice of menu.

Virtually all the wine regions of France are represented, not least the grand estates of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne. Nor have lovers of Chilean, Italian and Spanish wines been forgotten.
